Welcome to Windy Hill Burt, Nanette, and family welcome you to our website and we hope you enjoy your visit. Windy Hill Farm has been in the family for over 160 years. We are located in north central Illinois just outside the town of Kewanee. Like many Boer goat breeders, we intended to raise goats for market and for our son to show in 4-H. A few short years later we find ourselves with thirty breeding does and Mom and Dad are doing the showing too! Even Grandma and Grandpa are an important part of our operation! We enjoy continuing our family
tradition of raising quality livestock. Our main focus is
producing superior show wethers for the Midwest show circuit, show quality percentage does, and now a top quality fullblood doe herd. We are very proud of the herd we
assembled and are very excited about our future. Photos and pedigrees of
many of our current breeding stock are available on this website.
We continually Boer goats are a fantastic family project. They bring us closer together through the hard work and fun times we have with them. We dedicate a considerable amount of time to promoting the Boer Goat breed. Burt serves on the board of the Illinois Meat Goat Association, and Nan is the editor of the newsletter. Nan also serves on the Membership Committee for the American Boer Goat Association. We are very active in showing throughout the Midwest and enjoy speaking at seminars and hosting judging clinics at our local junior college, Black Hawk College of Kewanee, Illinois. We are also superintendents of two local Boer Goat shows including the Henry County Fair in Cambridge, Illinois and the Heart of Illinois Fair in Peoria, Illlinois. Meat goats are the fastest growing segment of livestock production in the United States. For good reason, they are also the fastest growing 4-H and FFA project in the U.S. We found meat goats easy and safe for our son and ourselves to handle. They improve the quality of our pasture. They are excellent pasture companions for other livestock especially cattle as they are browsers, and eat weeds and brush. They are also a joy to raise because of their personalities which are friendly, affectionate, and highly intelligent. Give us a call if you are looking for serious contenders in the show ring, or that first time youth project. Our animals are handled daily on our family-oriented farm so they will be friendly and safe for you and your children to handle. We keep detailed health and performance records on each animal which are open to your inspection. Please remember to check with your state veterinarian for health requirements if you are traveling from out of state to purchase goats. Registered animals will be sold with papers in hand for ease in transferring them to your ownership.
